MOT Type 3 Limestone is an open-graded sub-base material that is manufactured with reduced fines compared to MOT Type 1. The lower fines content allows water to drain freely through the material, making it particularly suitable for permeable construction projects.The most common use for MOT Type 3 stone is within Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), including permeable paving installations, car parks, paths and other developments where effective water management is required. Its free-draining properties help reduce surface water runoff and support compliance with SuDS design requirements.
In many applications, particularly those involving permeable paving systems, MOT Type 3 is specified to ensure adequate drainage performance and must be used to meet project specifications. Where drainage is not a key requirement, alternative materials such as MOT Type 1 or standard limestone may provide a more suitable and cost-effective solution.
